Clamshell Box

Skill Level: All skill levels welcome

Class Description: Clamshell Box. This is Pietro Accardi’s version of the clamshell box made with marbled fabric. Originally this kind of box has been used by libraries to preserve rare books or papers. The box was individually made according to the specific measurements of the book or collection of paper to preserve. Also, all the basic tips and tricks of box making with book cloth will be shared during the construction of the box. Note that the finished box will have rounded corners. You will also learn tips on how to make your own book cloth out of any kind of fabric.

Class Fees: Members Only Early Enrollment Price (EEP): $120; Member: $150; Non-member: $225

Material Fee: Materials Fee: Each SDBA class price includes the materials fee and shipping costs of $56 within the US. Students will provide their own tools and some set up supplies, which will be covered in the time sensitive SDBA Welcome Letter. The provided kit includes all the cut boards, marbled fabric and black interior paper.

Extra Kit Opportunity: Pietro is offering SDBA members and class participants the chance to purchase extra kits for the Clamshell Box. These extra kits would be purchased directly from Pietro and shipped anywhere in the United States. Pietro plans to give SDBA a 20% donation from the extra kit purchases. We will provide the way to order these kits within our SDBA Welcome Letter. Once directed details are followed, Pietro will offer fabric options for your purchase.
